چکیده

Computing the optimal expansion of a signal in a redundant dictionary of waveforms is an NP-hard problem. We introduce a greedy algorithm, called a matching pursuit, which computes a sub-optimal expansion. The dictionary waveforms which best match a signal's structures are chosen iteratively. An orthogonalized version of the matching pursuit is also developed. Matching pursuits are general procedures for computing adaptive signal representations. With a dictionary of Gabor functions, a matching pursuit deenes an adaptive time-frequency transform. We derive a signal energy distribution in the time-frequency plane which does not contain interference terms, unlike the Wigner and Cohen class distributions. Matching pursuits are chaotic maps whose attractors deene a generic noise with respect to the dictionary. We derive an algorithm that isolates the coherent structures of a signal and describe an application to pattern extraction from noisy signals.

Filtering Decompositions with Respect to Adaptive Test Vectors

The adaptive ltering decompositions are based on the tangential frequency ltering decompositions (TFFD). During the iteration with a preliminary preconditioner, the adaptive test vector method calculates new test vectors for additional TFFDs. The adaptive test vector iterative method allows the combination of the tangential frequency decomposition and other iterative methods such as multi-grid....

Goodwin & Vetterli : Matching Pursuit and Atomic Signal Models

The matching pursuit algorithm can be used to derive signal decompositions in terms of the elements of a dictionary of time-frequency atoms. Using a structured overcomplete dictionary yields a signal model that is both parametric and signal-adaptive. In this paper, we apply matching pursuit to the derivation of signal expansions based on damped sinusoids. It is shown that expansions in terms of...

An Efficient Adaptive Boundary Matching Algorithm for Video Error Concealment

Sending compressed video data in error-prone environments (like the Internet and wireless networks) might cause data degradation. Error concealment techniques try to conceal the received data in the decoder side. In this paper, an adaptive boundary matching algorithm is presented for recovering the damaged motion vectors (MVs). This algorithm uses an outer boundary matching or directional tempo...

Adaptive Approximate Record Matching

Typographical data entry errors and incomplete documents, produce imperfect records in real world databases. These errors generate distinct records which belong to the same entity. The aim of Approximate Record Matching is to find multiple records which belong to an entity. In this paper, an algorithm for Approximate Record Matching is proposed that can be adapted automatically with input error...

Near-best Basis Selection Algorithms with Non-additive Information Cost Functions

Search algorithms for finding signal decompositions called near-best bases using decision criteria called non-additive information costs are proposed for selecting bases in wavelet packet transforms. These new methods are compared with the best bases and additive information costs of Coifman and Wickerhauser [1]. All near-best and best bases were also compared with the matching pursuit decompos...
